I shook my head when I passed the bank and spotted Curtis and Curt’s truck parked in the lot.

“I hope those boys aren’t up to no good,” I said.

“They must have business at the bank, unless you think they’re capable of doing a bank job.”

I laughed. “Don’t be silly. I just hope they don’t plan to harass Sally’s new boyfriend.”

“You mean, Phil, the one that never got out of the car last night?”

“I can’t say I’d blame him, Curt and Curtis can be intimidating.”

Eleanor clucked her tongue at me. “Agnes we have business to attend to if you don’t mind. Curt and Curtis don’t need our help.”

“I can’t help but worry about them.”

“I doubt they want to tangle with Phil again, not with his thumb on the 911 redial.”

“I suppose you’re right.” I sighed. “What’s the first address on the list?”

Eleanor rattled off the address and I made the turn on E. Westover Drive. If I continued on Westover, I’d run smack into the downtown area on Newman Street. It would be a quick walk in the summer, but Ginny Ziez, didn’t look like a woman that enjoyed such a pursuit.

“Let's tread lightly when we get to the door,” I said, as I parked on the shoulder of the road.

“Why are you parking on the street?”

“Because I don’t want to get boxed in if this goes south.”

Eleanor shrugged. “Why would it?”

“Ginny wasn’t pleasant with us yesterday.”

Eleanor laughed. “If that was a crime most of the people we interview would be locked up.”

“You know what I mean.”

“You can’t judge someone by appearances. Otherwise we would never have become friends.”

I shot Eleanor a look. “It’s not so much as how you look, but what comes flying out of your mouth.”

“Hey, what’s wrong with how I look?”

“Nothing, it’s just that sometimes you spout off too much.”

Eleanor’s brow shot up. “Is that a joke?”

“It is,” I said. “All I meant is that you can be quite a character.”

“That makes two of us.” She wrinkled her nose. “We better get moving before a neighbor calls the cops.”

Eleanor was right, it’s one of the nice things about living in a small town. Neighbors look out for one another.

I poised to knock on the door when Eleanor said, “Look, Ginny, has one of those video doorbells. I wonder how it works. Eleanor stuck out her tongue and made a funny face as she rang the doorbell.

“Eleanor please stop it, you’re embarrassing me... I mean yourself.”

She shoved her fingers in her ears and made an even worse face. “Is that better?”

“I’ll have you know I watched one of those live cop shows and a man was arrested for licking doorbell.” I realized then that I should have never told Eleanor that.”

“No, worries, I’d never embarrass myself to that extent.”

“That’s good to know.”

Ginny opened the door, her lower lip swallowing her upper one. “What do you want?”

“We have a few questions...”

Ginny slammed the door closed, the sound of her retreating footsteps echoing up her hallway.

Eleanor shrugged. “I don’t think she can take a joke.
